Institute of Structural Engineering
The Institute of Structural Engineering was established in 2015 and is affiliated with the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Geography Science. At present, the institute has a total of 12 full-time teachers, including 4 professors, 4 associate professors, 1 specially appointed associate professor, and 3 lecturers, all of whom hold doctoral degrees.
Based on the second level doctoral degree program in Structural Engineering and Geotechnical Mechanics, as well as the first-class discipline and first level master's degree program in Civil Engineering in Zhejiang Province, our institute has a key discipline in Structural Engineering in Ningbo City and a second level master's degree program in Structural Engineering. We also have a municipal key laboratory for Structural Engineering.
In recent years, the main research directions of our institute include fundamental mechanical issues of composite structures with novel civil engineering materials, applications of composite materials and structures in civil and ocean engineering, fundamental mechanical issues and key technologies of prefabricated engineering construction (PEC) systems, bond-slip theory and application of steel reinforced concrete, and the building system of composite modern bamboo structures (steel-bamboo composite structures).
As of September 2023, our institute has garnered 6 provincial and ministerial-level science and technology awards, 11 municipal and departmental-level awards, and has secured nearly 20 national-level research projects and over 20 provincial and ministerial-level research projects. Additionally, we have published over a hundred high-level research papers, participated in the compilation of 7 national/industry standards and codes, significantly enhancing the influence and reputation of our disciplines.
During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, our institute will seize the opportunity of Ningbo University's development into a comprehensive research university with distinct characteristics, leveraging the advantageous research directions such as composite structures with novel materials, prefabricated structural systems, seismic resistance and fire protection in structural engineering as breakthroughs for discipline development. We aim to strive for a series of high-level and landmark research achievements, and endeavor to become an emerging research institute with a certain degree of domestic reputation.
