Institute of Geotechnical Engineering
The Institute of Geotechnical Engineering was established in 2013 and is one of the earliest academic organizations engaged in geotechnical engineering research in this region. The research institute currently has 13 teachers, including 5 professors, 4 associate professors, and 4 lecturers; There are 5 doctoral supervisors and 11 teachers with doctoral degrees. The faculty structure is reasonable, with rich teaching, research, and practical experience. They are mainly responsible for the teaching and research of the Master's program in Geotechnical Engineering and the undergraduate module in Geotechnical and Underground Structural Engineering at Ningbo University. Our institute focuses on international exchange and cooperation, with a strong academic atmosphere. We regularly invite renowned scholars from home and abroad to give lectures, and have successfully hosted academic conferences the "China-Japan Forum on Geotechnical Engineering Materials and Technology and the 8th National Forum for Young Scholars in Geotechnical Engineering", as well as the second "Seminar on Research, Design, and Engineering Applications of Energy Underground Structures".
The Institute of Geotechnical Engineering has gradually formed its own research characteristics by combining national and local needs. It has achieved many research results in the fields of multi-physics field soil mechanics theory and application, soft soil foundation treatment, pile foundation engineering, environmental geotechnical engineering, soft soil underground engineering, and information technology. In response to the characteristics of coastal soft soil in the eastern coastal regions and the demands of engineering construction, our institute has proposed a unified constitutive model for the thermo-hydro-mechanical coupling of saturated/unsaturated soils, and established a multi-physics soil mechanics theory, experimentation, and engineering application system that takes temperature effects into account. We have also conducted R&D and applications of technologies such as high-performance concrete pile foundations, underground structural products, and contaminated soil remediation. These efforts have successfully supported the optimization design, calculations, and disaster prediction and prevention engineering for soft soil foundation treatment, urban rail transit, and underground construction in Zhejiang's coastal regions. The institute has won 6 national and provincial-level science and technology progress awards, undertaken 18 national science and technology support projects and National Natural Science Foundation of China projects, as well as research projects in fields such as rail transit engineering, pile foundation engineering, and underground structures. The institute has published over 200 high-level papers in core journals both domestically and internationally, obtained over 30 invention patents, and published multiple textbooks and monographs.
