The Institute of Bridge and Road Engineering, affiliated to the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, is a teaching, research, and social service institution specializing in bridge and road engineering under the discipline of civil engineering. The research institute currently has 13 full-time teachers, including 3 professors, 6 associate professors, and 4 lecturers.
In terms of teaching, the institute is an important part of the undergraduate program in Civil Engineering, the first-level master's degree program in Civil Engineering, the National Demonstration Center for Experimental Civil Engineering Education, and the National Center for Virtual Simulation Experimental Civil Engineering Education. We have a second-level master's degree program in Bridge and Tunnel Engineering, with main research areas including bridge structure design theory and construction technology, bridge vibration and control, bridge structure damage detection and durability analysis, and traffic safety in bridge tunnels and their connecting sections. Currently, we have over 120 graduate students (Bridge and Tunnel Engineering) and undergraduate students (Road and Bridge Engineering).
In terms of scientific research and local services, the institute is also an important component of the first-class discipline of civil engineering in Zhejiang Province. Over the past five years, members of the institute have been responsible for 5 national-level scientific research projects, 12 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects, and more than 20 municipal and department-level scientific research projects. They have also undertaken numerous technological consulting and service work, such as bridge engineering technology research and development, bridge inspection and reinforcement, disaster prevention and reduction for bridge and road engineering, and road traffic planning. An engineering technology research and development center between schools and enterprises has been established, and technological cooperation has been established with countries and regions such as the United States, Britain, Singapore, Australia, and Hong Kong. They have published more than 50 high-level papers and received multiple science and technology awards from Zhejiang Province and Ningbo City.
The Institute of Bridge and Road Engineering, Ningbo University, will focus on the needs of China's transportation construction, build stronger technological innovation and sustainable development capabilities, and strive to become an emerging research institute with certain influence in the field of bridge and road engineering at home and abroad.
