Institute of Eco-Environmental Science
The Institute of Eco-Environment Science was established on November 5, 2015, serving as a secondary research institute under the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Geography Science, Ningbo University. Currently, the institute has a faculty of 7 full-time teachers (including 5 associate professors, 2 lecturers, and all holding Ph.D. degrees), 12 research assistants, and over 10 graduate students, forming a research and innovation team of more than 30 members. The institute’s primary research focuses encompass watershed water pollution modeling and remediation, smart urban drainage system development, migration, transformation, and source apportionment of typical pollutants, solid waste treatment and disposal, environmental planning and management, among others.
Since its inception, the institute has actively aligned with the university’s aspiration to become a “comprehensive research university with distinctive characteristics,” displaying a proactive and diligent attitude, which has culminated in commendable achievements. Since 2015, the institute has secured 6 grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, over 10 provincial and ministerial projects, and undertaken more than 70 research projects commissioned by local governments, enterprises, and institutions, with research funding exceeding 20 million yuan. It has published over 20 high-impact papers, and one faculty member was recognized as an advanced individual in teacher ethics at the provincial level. Additionally, two staff members received individual honors from the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government for their outstanding contributions to the “Ten Million Projects” and the Beautiful Zhejiang Initiative. Two teachers were awarded the Eastern Zhejiang Young Scholar title, and the institute received the Third Prize for Environmental Protection Science and Technology in Zhejiang Province. It has also been honored with three Ningbo University Service to the Local Community Outstanding Contribution Awards (including one team award and one individual award). Under its guidance, students have won a Gold and a Silver Award in the National Challenge Cup Competition, a Gold Award in the Provincial Challenge Cup, two Gold Awards in the Zhejiang College Students’ “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and a First Prize in the Zhejiang Provincial University Student Environmental Ecology Science and Technology Innovation Contest. Furthermore, the Qingyuan Environmental Observation Center in Jiangbei District, Ningbo, an environmental protection non-profit organization, has received the 9th “Mother River” Award under the guidance of the institute.
