Founded in 2015, the Institute of Pollution Control Technology is a secondary research institute under the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Geography Science, Ningbo University. It primarily focuses on the research and application of water, air, solid waste, and soil pollution control technologies. The institute boasts a robust faculty, forming an innovative teaching and research team that integrates experienced, middle-aged, and young scholars. Currently, it has 7 full-time faculty members, all of whom hold Ph.D. degrees, including 3 professors, 1 associate professor, and 3 lecturers. There are also 21 graduate students enrolled. The major research directions encompass biological treatment and resource recovery of wastewater/sewage; biodegradation and enhancement of emerging pollutants; tracing of aquatic pollutants and coastal water environmental pollution control; stability control of aquatic environments in aquaculture systems; bioremediation of water bodies, soils, and other special sites; disposal and resource utilization of organic solid waste; and industrial exhaust gas treatment.
Adhering to the principle of “Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets,” the Institute actively embodies the spirit of “writing research papers on the land,” combining theoretical research with practical applications in a down-to-earth manner. It has successfully secured 8 grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, over 15 projects at provincial and ministerial levels, and undertaken more than 50 local service-oriented research projects, with a total funding of over 20 million yuan. The institute has published over 130 high-quality research papers and obtained 15 authorized invention patents. Its research achievements have garnered prestigious awards, including the China Habitat Environment Example Prize, China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Innovation Award, Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Award (Third Prize), and Ningbo Municipal Science and Technology Award (Second Prize).
In terms of talent cultivation, the institute has nurtured 31 graduate students, many of whom have published academic papers in influential international and domestic journals. Several individuals have been honored with titles such as Zhejiang Provincial Outstanding Graduates, Excellent Graduation Thesis, First Prize in the “Thousand Students Serve the Grassroots” Initiative at the Ningbo Graduate Student Academic Festival, Ningbo University’s Cao Guangbiao Graduate Student Research Achievement Award, and Ningbo University’s Zhuochuang Graduate Student Research Achievement Award.
