Bridge and Tunnel Engineering is the master program of secondary-level discipline under first-level discipline’s master program in Civil Engineering, approved in 2011. Relying on provincial key major, first-class and key discipline of civil engineering, it owns the advanced testers and machines such as static and dynamic testing equipment of bridge, optical measuring instrument, MTS multidirectional loading test system, fatigue tester and multi-function fire testing furnace. Its relevant laboratory is the National Demonstration Center for Experimental Civil Engineering Education, the National Center for Experimental Virtual Simulation Education (Civil Engineering) and Ningbo municipal structural engineering key laboratory, of superior experimental condition.
Now the master program is mainly in five directions: (1) design theory and construction technology of bridge structure; (2) bridge vibration and control; (3) damage detection and durability analysis of bridge structure; (4) traffic safety of bridge, tunnel and the connection section; (5) tunnel engineering. On the basis of the above research directions, the theoretical, computational and experimental research work has been carried out in combination with the frontier of the subject and the practice of engineering. Over the past five years, dozens of government-funded and enterprise-funded projects have been undertaken such as the National Natural Science Foundation; more than 100 papers and many monographs as “Structural Theory and Calculation Method of Urban Viaducts”, “Introduction to Elasticity and Plasticity Mechanics” have been published. In this group, there are three professors, five associate professors and twelve PhDs.
Prof. Ding Yong (doctorate awarded by Tsinghua University), in charge of the master program, normally serves as the director of the Institute of Road and Bridge Engineering, in research of design theory of bridge structure, vibration and control of bridge.
Prof. Zhu Huibing (doctorate awarded by Shanghai University), in research of traffic safety of bridge, tunnel and the connection section, Prof. Bu Zhanyu (doctorate awarded by Zhejiang University), A/Prof. ZhuGe Ping (doctorate awarded by Southwest Jiaotong University) and A/Prof. Shao Lixia (doctorate awarded by Wuhan University) are academic figures in the team.
